Wingecarribee Shire Council was successful in being awarded a Council Roadside Reserves grant funded by the NSW Environmental Trust and managed by Local Government NW. Council engaged Molino Stewart as part of its grant to develop and produce position statements and environmental guidelines that could be integrated into the whole Integrated Roadside Environmental Management Framework. The project developed three tools that are integrated into Council’s Roadside Management Plan including an improved mapping tool, environmental guidelines for common management activities, and position statements for the community. Council focused on a collaborative approach in order to capture corporate knowledge, build staff awareness and gain consensus on management activities. The project has built Council’s understanding of roadside management and developed easy to use tools as central point of reference. Wingecarribee Shire Council subsequently won an Excellence in the Environment Award for its Integrated Roadside Environmental Management Framework. An example of the ancillary works environmental management guideline can be viewed here.
